In recent days, there has been much talk about how Eastern Orthodoxy shares the attributes of the 1st millennium, whereas Catholicism does not. Many like to point out how the presence of schims in the early Church and the lack of schisms in Catholicism proves the two can't be matched.
I actually would quibble with that. But I'm not here to address it specifically. What I'd like to do is take a significant summary from the height of the 1st millennium that describes what the 1st millennium Church looked like in a sweeping characterization, and then ask the reader to ask themselves, "Which Church today looks like what this source describes?"
Below is a claim made by Pope St. Agatho on how the Church of the first 7 centuries had always followed the divine authority of St. Peter in the person of his successor. This claim was read aloud, audibly embraced, and officially inserted into the Acts of the 6th Ecumenical Council, which means the Council took the contents of Agatho and made it her own.
Therefore, below is an Eastern Orthodox Ecumenical council describing the Church of the first 7 centuries. In sincerity, can an Eastern Orthodox today utter the same sweeping description of 2nd millennium Eastern Orthodoxy that the 6th Ecumenical Council gave to the church of the 1st millennium.

Love your work Eric. Please pray for me. I’m discerning Catholicism from a Protestant background. I remember an interview you had with Matt Fradd where you said you set up camp so to speak on convictions and take time with them to see if you really convinced of something. Do you have any advice to give as to how long?
They've been dealt with satisfactorily. And they don't prove Protestant or EO ecclesiology.
